Burnley tearaway, 15, locked up
9:30am Monday 14th February 2011 in Rosegrove By Wendy Barlow , Court reporter
PUT AWAY Green
A 15-year-old tearaway has been locked up after bringing misery to the lives of residents in part of Burnley.
Charlie Green, 15, known as ‘Charlie Chips’, is the subject of an anti-social behaviour order which he has repeatedly flouted.
He has now been locked up for four months after admitting an attack on a taxi driver.
Green, with accomplice, Alfie Dunstan, 21, was part of a gang which targeted and confronted a cabbie.
The victim was attacked, cash and cigarettes stolen from him and then his taxi was kicked.
He can be named publicly for the first time in criminal proceedings, after a judge ruled it was in the public interest and removed reporting restrictions. Green, of Liverpool Road, Burnley, whose "supportive, but long-suffering" mother accompanied him to the crown court hearing, had admitted theft and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.
Dunstan, of Buccleuch Street, in the town, was jailed for eight months, after pleading guilty to affray.
Dunstan was said to have struck the victim.
Judge Beverley Lunt told Green, he had a ‘dreadful record’.
The ASBO hearing last March had been told how in the months before, Green had been arrested for robbery, common assault, burglary, verbal abuse, possession of cannabis, harassment, witness intimidation, damage and obstructing police.
Simon Gurney, defending Green, told the crown court he had a "disgraceful " record for a child of his age.
The defendant had "multiple and various" difficulties in his life, had special educational needs, behavioural problems and a low IQ.
