POLICE in Burnley are warning youngsters who are using mini-motos and trials bikes illegally that their vehicles could be crushed if they continue to break the law.

It follows complaints to police in the Rosegrove and Lowerhouse areas of Burnley.

Officers have responded by making it a priority issue, stepping up patrols in affected areas and delivering leaflets to local households which warn of penalties and appeal for information on the culprits.

PC Michelle Horne, community beat manager, said: “The local Neighbourhood Policing team have had several complaints about mini moto nuisance particularly around the Stoops and Griffin Estate and also on the field behind the Printers Fold estate.  “The anti-social and illegal use of these bikes is not something either residents or the police are willing to put up with.”

She urged people to come forward to the police with the names, nick names and any other information about the bikes and their riders.

“It is the intention of my team to identify those responsible and take action.

“In particular, we are appealing for members of the public to come forward with information about the bikes and their riders.

“Names, nicknames and descriptions of the bikes are all useful and will enable us to address the problem “We plan to do that by seizing and, where necessary, crushing the bikes as we have done elsewhere in Burnley over recent months.”
