PRINCE Charles was treated to a musical welcome as he arrived at Burnley Youth Theatre.

Youngsters taking part in the Prince's Trust Acting Up scheme, performed One from the musical Chorus Line.

After chatting with the 12 girls, he watched a routine that they had been perfecting all half term.

He smiled throughout the show, tapping along to the music.

Abigail Wilson, 16, from Sir John Thursby School, said she was proud of the show.

She said: "The steps were a bit out, but we have been doing the dancing and singing for just a few days.

"It was really nerve wracking performing right in front of the Prince.

"I never thought I would do something like that.

"I never thought I could really sing."

She added: "The scheme is really good for my confidence and meeting new friends.

"It was really nice to speak to the Prince and he said he enjoyed it."

Huma Khan, 14, from the same school, said: "We all really enjoyed it.

"He shook all of our hands and complimented us on our show."

The artistic director of Burnley Youth Theatre Andrew Raffle said: "We have been working with young people on a lot of really good projects.

"One of our latest projects was called Not In My Name and explored views on terrorism.

"The workshops we do here give young people a platform to talk about the issues that affect them on a local level and it's been great to meet the Prince and to show him what we do here."
