PADIHAM residents will be hoping to benefit from an improved service from the council and police as part of a new scheme.
The town is one of 18 areas in the North West that will take part in a Government programme, which aims to improve communication between residents and service providers in areas such as health, employment, crime and housing.
Burnley Council have been given grants of £75,000 to run the programme, which will pay for increased staffing, improving local services, more training and publicity.
The programme will look at the services run in Padiham by the county and borough councils, police and other public sector organisations, and how they can be improved and how local people can have their say.
Coun Jeff Sumner, executive member for customer access and community engagement, said: “I will be delighted to see this programme run in Padiham, which will mean residents can make real and meaningful decisions to improve services in their area.
“Emphasis will be placed on giving local residents the confidence and skills to communicate and influence the shape and delivery of services available to them.
“People in Padiham will have real worries about jobs, the future of their children, housing and anti-social behaviour, and we want to work with them to address their concerns, to raise more awareness of what opportunities are currently available to them and where there are gaps, to direct resources to where residents feel they are best needed to make a real difference.”
