TWO people have been taken to hospital after a crash in Burnley.

Emergency services were called to the collision at the Gannow Top roundabout off junction 10 of the M65 at around 3.40pm today.

The crash involved a grey Mitsubishi and a white Vauxhall Corsa.

Following the crash, a woman has been taken to Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital with a head injury.

A man has also been taken to the same hospital with minor injuries.

Police, ambulance and fire crews attended the incident.

The M65 at junction 10 was also closed briefly for an air ambulance to land, causing some tailbacks on the Eastbound carriageway.

Force incident manager Inspector Sturgess said: "Police were called at 3.39pm to a two-vehicle crash involving a grey Mitsubishi and a white Corsa.

"A woman has been taken to Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital with a head injury and man to the same hospital with minor injuries."

"Junction 10 of the M65 closed briefly for an air ambulance to land."

A fire service spokesman said they used cutting equipment to rescue one person who was trapped in one of the vehicles.

The spokesman said: "Three fire engines from Burnley and Hyndburn attended a road traffic collision involving two cars on Gannow Top in Burnley.

"Firefighters rescued one person who was trapped in one of the vehicles using cutting equipment, and ensured there were no remaining hazards from fire, fuel or debris."
