Anthony Ford, watch liaison officer in East division, said: “For a number of reasons Mercedes vans are favoured by the criminal for their expensive catalytic converters.

“Loss of this component can cost thousands to replace.

“Once inside they caused extensive damage and removed a total of 22 catalytic converters from brand-new Mercedes Vans. This represents a significant loss to the company involved.”

Officers would like to trace a blue coloured 4x4 Land Rover and anyone that saw this vehicle or any other vehicles acting suspiciously in the area over the weekend when the thefts took place.

PCSO Julie Rosthorn said: “The catalytic converters have most likely been targeted for the precious metal parts they contain.

“This theft has had a huge impact on the business concerned.”
