POLICE have drained the lake in Thompson Park but have not yet found any weapons.
Officers ordered that the lake be drained on Wednesday morning in case Mr Shafiq's attackers had thrown their weapons in the water.
Specialist search officers combed the area for an iron bar and blade but have so far failed to find anything.
Meanwhile, CCTV camera footage, from Burnley College, is being studied by detectives in a bid for further clues.
And officers are still keen to speak to any witnesses or people with information.
They should call Burnley Police on 01282 425001.
