A WOMAN was left lying unconscious in a Burnley street after she was viciously assaulted by two teenage girls.

The 42-year-old was set upon at the junction of Williams Road and Briercliffe Road at around 2.20am on Saturday.

Detectives say the woman was left collapsed in the road and she could have been hit by oncoming cars.

Det Sgt Vinny De Curtis, from Burnley police, said: "She could have died because she was left there in the road.

"This was a vicious attack.

"It was not a case of just hitting her once. It was a sustained attack.

"She could not tell me that much about it except that she had been assaulted."

An ambulance was called by a member of the public and the woman was kept in the Royal Blackburn Hospital for two nights before being released on Sunday.

She had been drinking in the Victoria pub, Colne Road, but left following an argument with a group of young women, police said.

She walked through the town centre with two men who left her at the junction of Williams Road and Briercliffe Road where she was assaulted by the teenage attackers.

The girls were later seen getting into a red Honda civic.

Police do not believe they were from the same group who argued with the victim in the Victoria.

Det Sgt De Curtis said: "The two men who walked her back were Good Samaritans.

"However, after they left her and had got about 50 metres away, they heard her screaming and saw her getting a good hiding.

"They went back to help but the attackers had cleared off."

The first woman was described as being white, aged 16 to 18, with shoulder-length dark brown hair with red and purple highlights.

She is around 5ft 4in and was wearing a green top with frilly sleeves and three-quarter-length jeans.

The second attacker was also white and aged 16 to 18 with dark hair in a pony tail.

She was taller than the first woman.

the after the event police never ever there when you want them.
With the amountof attacks by yobs on decent citizens surely now is the time to allow us to defend ourselve the same as the police are allowed to defend themselves .Why should the police be allowed to use offensive and dangerous weapons and not us .
ESPECIALLY WHEN WE ARE ALL AWARE IT TAKES AT LEAST 10 PIGS TO ARREST ONE PERSON
