Police sniff out Burnley cannabis farm

POLICE used their sense of smell to sniff out a cannabis factory.

The drugs farm containing 28 plants was uncovered in Cobden Street in the Bank Hall area of Burnley.

Police Community Support Officer Gerry Woods was out on foot patrol in the Cobden Street area when he noticed the distinctive smell.

He returned a short time later with extra police officers and a search warrant.

PCSO Woods said: "I noticed the smell as I was carrying out my normal patrol .

"My colleague PC Dave Pascoe obtained a search warrant made the discovery.

"On entry to the premises we found a substantial number of cannabis plants being cultivated."

He said the incident should serve as a warning to others.

PCSO Woods added: "Where we can find clear evidence of offences, we will put people before the courts.

"I would like to urge anyone with any information about drug-related activity to have the confidence to come forward and speak to us.

"If anyone has any information about cannabis being grown or sold in their area then they are urged to contact me direct on 07903 287107, by coming along to their local Police and Communities Together meeting (PACT) or if they want, they can call Crimestoppers free and in confidence on 0800 555 111.

"Working together we can combat drug-use in our communities."

As a result of the raid, a man was arrested in connection with the find and around 28 cannabis plants were destroyed.

The raid took place on April 29, but police have only just released details.
