Two Burnley youths charged with manslaughter

TWO youths have been charged with manslaughter following the death of a 48-year-old man who was the victim of the serious assault in Briercliffe.
Darren Atkinson was assaulted in Standen Hall Drive on March 25 and passed away two weeks later at the Royal Preston Hospital.
Two boys, aged 16 and 17, both from Burnley, were charged with manslaughter and have been bailed to appear before Reedley Youth Court on April 18.
Mr Atkinson, from Brierfield, has been described as a ‘gentle giant’, who had been ‘minding his own business’ when he was assaulted and suffered a fractured skull.
