A MISSING cat has sparked a nationwide search after being 'spotted' 200 miles away from home in London.
Seven-year-old Silver disap-peared from her home in Water Street, Hapton, on April 14, leaving her owners Angela and Jim Jones frantically searching for her.
The couple put up posters in the local area and then resorted to trawling the web for lost animal sites.
Two days later they spied their pet's picture on the website gumtree.com and found that an identical cat had been seen in Nether Street, West Finchley, But the moggie - who is named after her distinctive silver tiger markings - has now vanished again and her owners are desperate to locate her.
Angela said: "We have had Silver since she was a kitten. Jim was fitting a catflap and Silver was getting under his feet. He said go away Silver' - and she did - 200 miles away."
The family think Silver may have hitched a lift on a Fagan and Whalley haulage truck, as there is a depot at the end of their road.
But their happiness at seeing the advert has turned to disappointment as, after contacting the couple in the advert, they learned that Silver had gone on the move once more.
Ms Jones said: "The man who found her said she was well-fed and groom-ed, but he gave her some food before letting her out again. They haven't seen her since."
Tara Kauser, whose boy-friend Mo spotted Silver, put the advert on Gumtree.com and is placing up posters around Finchley to help track her down again.
She said: "We have our own kitten and we want to find some way to help. Hopefully people will look out and will recognise the cat from the posters and take her in."
The Joneses have contacted the national pet register and vets in Finchley and say they are willing to make the four-hour journey if their beloved family pet is found.
Ms Jones said: "We are 99.9 per cent certain that the cat in the picture was Silver - if not then she has an identical twin. We have another cat called Scatty and she has really been pining for her. We want her back as soon as possible.
"Silver is a very friendly cat but she must be scared that she is so far away from home. She has clear white patches on her back and under her belly. If anyone has any information we would be really grateful."
Anyone who knows of Silver's whereabouts can call Ms Jones on 07810 535811.
