A MOTORIST who crashed into a lamppost has died four days after suffering a suspected seizure at the wheel.

Edward Rogers, 89, of Hapton was driving along Blackburn Road, Acre, near Haslingden, shortly after 1.45pm on Wednesday when he collapsed.

He lost control of his blue Citroen C4 before colliding with a lamppost.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the road was closed for almost three hours as emergency crews released the pensioner from his vehicle.

He was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital but died on Saturday.

Mr Rogers’ daughter, who was a passenger in the car, was also taken to hospital where she is understood to have been treated for shock.

Yesterday the family were too upset to comment.

A woman driver and her five-year-old son, who were travelling the opposite way when Mr Rogers’ car veered across the road, were also taken to hospital.

Both were treated for shock and minor bruising.

Lancashire County Council was also called to the scene by police as the car had leaked fuel and oil on to the road.

Road traffic officers are now appealing for witnesses.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
