Butty reward for Hapton midnight walkers
11:35am Wednesday 20th June 2012 in Hapton
FUNDRAISERS taking part in a sponsored midnight walk will be rewarded with a bacon butty, after a local firm donated 3,000 rashers Birchall Foodservice, based on Network 65 Business Park in Hapton, made the ‘porky pledge’ to Pendleside Hospice as a well-deserved treat for walkers at the end of their eight-mile trek.
The hospice’s annual Midnight Walk takes place on Saturday, July 7 with a new route that starts and finishes at Turf Moor, with hundreds of women are expected to take part.
Nicola Watson, business support manager at Birchall Foodservice, is doing the walk in memory of her dad, Stuart Holmes.
She said: “My dad spent two months in the hospice before he died of stomach cancer aged 56.”
It will be the fourth anniversary of his death on July 15, the week after the Midnight Walk.
“The hospice is a really incredible place. I don’t know how you ever repay them but this is a small way of giving something back.”
Nicola has enlisted the support of her colleagues, who will be joining her and her mum on the walk, and her bosses were more than happy to donate provisions for the good cause too.
