THREE cars were stolen in Hapton and Padiham after thieves sneaked into unlocked homes and took the keys within the space of a few hours.
The spate of burglaries saw thieves target unlocked homes in Oxford Close and East Street in Padiham, as well as Castle Street in Hapton.
A silver Citroen C4, stolen from Oxford Close, was later recovered in Copthurst Street, and a black Vauxhall Astra, stolen from East Street, was found in Beech Street.
Police are still searching for a white Mazda, which was stolen from Castle street.
Officers have responded to the burglaries by stepping up patrols in the area and speaking to residents about the importance of being vigilant.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Withers, of Burnley CID, is urging people to keep their windows and doors locked.
He said: “Burglary in Lancashire is low but we want to keep it that way. Residents have a crucial part to play to make it difficult for thieves to operate.
“It sounds like simple advice but making sure you look doors and windows can really make a difference and I urge residents to be more security conscious around their homes.
“Don’t be careless with your personal belongings, even around your home. Place them out of sight.
“It only takes a few seconds for a burglar to make their mark, so take a few minutes to make your mark against them. Taking extra steps to prevent thieves entering your home.”
The burglaries took place overnight between Wednesday (14) and Thursday (15).
An 18-year-old man, of Padiham, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary in a dwelling and theft of a vehicle. Yesterday (16) he was being questioned by officers.
