A LUNCHEON club in Hapton has found the recipe for success thanks to a series of grants.
County Cllr Azhar Ali, executive member for health and wellbeing, has been able to offer a £2,500 grant from Lancashire County Council.
And the authority’s older people’s champion, County Cllr Terry Aldridge, has also been able to weigh in with £500, after borough council funding is reported to have been withdrawn.
County Cllr Marcus Johnstone, who represents Burnley West and Padiham, has also used to remainder of his community fund for 2016-17 to back the group, which is based at Hapton Methodist Church, in Whitefield Street.
Fare Share, the community food supply organisation, has stepped to offer cut-price ingredients, according to Hapton Parish Council, 'which will help the group become self-sufficient'.
The venture, which is run by the Over 50s Club and has around 40 or so members, has also issued an appeal for a new chef.
Any volunteers would need to be available between 9.30am and 1.30pm on Tuesdays.
