THE LANDLORD at the Gordon Lennox Arms, Cliviger, called time on the pub for the last time.

It is believed that the pub, in Burnley Road, may be converted into apartments after the Scottish and Newcastle Brewery decided to sell it.

Landlord Pete Whitehead, said: "It is a bit sad because I probably won't see my friends who come in to drink again.

"It is not making any money so the brewery decided to sell it."

A party was held on the pub's final night.

Local customer Cyril Spencer was given the honour of ringing the bell for last orders for the last time, accompanied by his wife Doris.

I don't think the relaxation of the licensing hours has got anything to do with it. It's more likely the smoking ban and the exhorbitant price of beer in pubs. Why should I pay £2.60 for a pint of lager when I can get a 12 pack for a tenner?
but it wont be much fun sharing a 12 pack with a retard called bj? you wouldnt feel safe either, better to pay pub prices.

I've never been a regular in any Pub but I do notice that since the relaxation of closing hours there seems to be a lot of them boarded up, it's a great shame because once these establishments have gone there will be a big hole in the fabric of local life, change happens but it seems to have been a rapid fall for the local.
