I HAVE been a regular commuter through Warrington for many years, and it was this Thursday night while sat in yet another queue that I realised that Warrington is strangling itself with traffic lights.
Let me give you two examples; Bridge Foot – motorists queue patiently for 15 minutes to get from Knutsford Road to Wilson Patten Street through a major set of lights only to be stopped by a really badly located pedestrian crossing.
Why can’t we have a high level crossing and keep the traffic moving?
Coming through the new expressway past Central Station there are several sets of lights for the Golden Square car park, the old baths road etc yet the lights seem to give priority to the side roads and stop the main flow of traffic through the town.
I feel the council and the designers of these systems need to think about the flow rather than the minor roads which cut across them.
Come on designers and council – keep the traffic moving. It is good for business.
