Icy conditions cause chaos on East Lancashire roads

A SERIES of road closures caused chaos for commuters in East Lancashire this morning.

A crash on the southbound A56 between the M65 at junction eight and Rising Bridge caused the carriageway to be closed at 6am.

By the time it re-opened at 7.50am there were long queues.

Motorists reported queues stretching back towards Accrington town centre through Baxenden and also problems on the M65.

Also closed were the Grane Road between Blackburn and Haslingden and nearby Jackson Heights Road due to snow and ice.

In Cliviger Burnley Road near the Ram pub was closed at 7am after a crash.

maybe the roads would be a lot clearer if LCC concentrated on them instead of private gritting contracts, instead of doing 39 sites throughout east lancs , maybe those crews could be used for street clearance instead of hiring in sub contractors - something has got confused in counties way of thinking
