CUTTING-EDGE technology and improved community facilities were on display at a special event to celebrate the £157,000 revamp of Briercliffe Library.

County Coun David Smith, lead member for community services, joined library users, together with managers and staff, at the recent official reopening of the library on Jubilee Street.

Coun Smith said: “I'm very pleased to say that we've avoided library closures here in Lancashire and are continuing to invest in our service wherever we can.

“Briercliffe Library has been completely transformed. Of course it still offers important traditional services such as lending books, but now it offers so much more.

“For example, there is movable shelving so the library can be used to host community activities and events, and new Wi-Fi facilities will allow people to use their own laptops.

"The library has been completely redecorated and looks brighter and more welcoming. There are new carpets, comfy seats, a study table and a larger children's area.”
