REFURBISHMENT work has begun at Briercliffe Library and part of the car park at the neighbouring community centre has been blocked off.
The library, in Jubilee Street, is being given a complete facelift with new shelves, automatic doors, carpets and front counter.
The library currently occupies half of the building but will expand into the area formerly occupied by the health clinic.
The refurbishment will also include more room for books, newspapers, a drinks machine, more public computers, a larger children’s area, more room for activities and events, and comfy seats.
A wi-fi connection will also be installed, and the option to introduce a self-service system further down the line will be added.
Lancashire County Council is investing £157,000 in the library and the work is expected to be completed in May.
