A BRIERCLIFFE man has raised more than £1,000 for charity by a 10k race around Manchester.

Gary Mills completed the Bupa Great Manchester Run on Sunday, May 17.

As a result Gary, who works at Rosteel, Bradford, raised £1,357 for Pendleside Hospice, based at Reedley.

He received sponsorship from his colleagues at the Yorkshire firm.

The race included 33,000 runners and took a circular course around central Manchester.

Gary ran an average of a mile every 10 minutes, sprinting to the end in 63 minutes.

He said “My mum came for treatment at Pendleside and is my way of repaying the hospice for the loving care she received.”

The money raised will help the hospice provide care to local people suffering from cancer and other life limiting illnesses.

Annual running costs currently exceed £2.8million, of which, more than £2million has to be raised from fundraising and donations.
