Crime fund for car safety scheme

A NEW program to tackle car crime has been launched by Burnley police.

Officers patrolling the Briercliffe area want to encourage motorists to remove valuables from view in their cars to keep them safe.

Drivers have been issued with car crime awareness packs which includes an air freshener which has a safety message.

The police are hoping this campaign will warn thieves off.

Packs are being given out by community beat manager PC Alison Alexander and police community support officer Rachel Lonsdale.

PC Alexander said: “You just don’t leave items on view to tempt a thief, but sadly this crime prevention message doesn’t seem to be getting through to everyone.

“Park your car as securely as you can, lock it and never leave anything on display. Even an old coat on the backseat is a temptation for thieves who may think it contains money or property.”

Funds from the Proceeds of Crime Act have paid for the packs.
