‘Desperate’ Burnley thief walked out of store with jacket

A THIEF walked out of a shop in new trainers, after putting his own shoes on the shelf and doing a swap.

Burnley magistrates heard how “desperate” Aynsley Bordycott, 32, was caught and bailed and later went into Tesco, put on a coat and left the store. The goods were recovered in both cases.

Bordycott, of Waterbarn Street, Burnley, admitted theft of the £30 training shoes from TK Maxx on April 11 and stealing the £18 jacket on June 20. He was given a community order for 12 months and 100 hours unpaid work.

John Nuttall, defending, said Bordycott had less than £100 a fortnight to live on and was struggling.

The solicitor added: “He says he was desperate. He needed some footwear and he had no jacket at all.”
