Burnley drink driver fined

A DRINK driver more than twice the limit had no licence or insurance either, Burnley magistrates heard.

Window cleaner Jonathon White, 23, gave a sample showing 80 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was tested by police on June 4.

The legal limit is 35.

The defendant, of White Street, Burnley, admitted driving with excess alcohol, on Byron Street.

He was banned for 18 months and must pay £340 in fines, costs and victim surcharge.

Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, said just before midnight, a police officer saw White driving.

The defendant was having difficulty starting the vehicle at traffic lights, it stalled twice, but then eventually set off towards Padiham.

The car was travelling at about 15mph, turned into Byron Street, and pulled up abruptly at the side of the road.

Police went to speak to him and he gave a positive roadside breath test.

The defendant had no relevant previous convictions.

Catherine Fell, defending, said: "It wasn't his intention when he first went out to drive the vehicle home after having a drink."
