BURNLEY will become Little America over the May Day weekend as the revived and re-energised International Rock and Blues Festival brings some major names to East Lancashire.
Tickets have now gone on sale for the event which will see one of the biggest blues artists in the world heading to Burnley.
Jimmie Vaughan, founder member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds and older brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan, will be headlining the opening night of the festival on Friday, May 4 at Burnley Mechanics with his Tilt-a-Whirl Band, the band’s only UK appearance this year.
Also on the Friday night bill will be singer Lou Ann Barton, a founder member of the Double Trouble Band, leading north west blues band Dr Truth and Londoners Albany Down.
On Saturday, May 5, the line-up includes Hamilton Loomis, Larry Garner, Norman Beaker, Hokie Joint and the Revolutionaires with a headline act still to be announced to round off a full day’s music.
The final day of the festival features some of the leading names from the UK rock and blues scene including Ian Siegal, the Matt Schofield Trio, Dani Wilde, Virgil and the Accelerators and Nine Below Zero who are hoping to bring a special guest with them.
Tickets for the Friday night are £28.50 and £35 for both Saturday and Sunday. A full festival ticket is £88.50. The whole of Burnley will be transformed with a number of stages throughout the town.
The Inn on the Wharf will become the second official stage for the festival – the Memphis Stage.
A whole series of fringe venues have all been confirmed, all taking their names from American cities: The Talbot becomes the Austin stage, the Coach and Horses the New Orleans stage, the Bridge Bier Huis the Chicago stage, the Boot Inn the Louisiana stage, XS Fusions the LA stage, Sanctuary the Miami stage and the Artisan Cafe the New York stage featuring acoustic artists.
There will be a range of family activities with an American theme in the town centre on the Saturday and Sunday will see a carnival atmosphere take over.
The event is being staged by Burnley-based Doc Redeye Events and Burnley Council in association with AMS Neve.
Tickets are available from the box office at Burnley Mechanics on 01282 664400.
