Festival spotlight on gay culture in Lancashire

A MONTH long celebration of Lancashire’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history is taking place next month.

During lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans-gender, LGBT, history month in February museums, libraries and archives in Lancashire will join together to host six countywide fun and creative events, aimed at increasing awareness of their culture and heritage.

Lancashire County Council’s archives office is building a Pink Collection of records devoted to LGBT culture, past and present.

Kathryn Rooke, an archivists at the Record Office, said: “We are asking the LGBT community for deposits or loans of papers, newsletters, minutes, letters, diaries, photographs, posters, leaflets and more.

History is made every day and we should be celebrating it, not hiding it.

“We also need people who would like to share their own personal histories for 10 minutes at our ‘Outing the Past 2’ event which takes place on February 25.”
