Burnley MP will support hunt ban

SUPPORT: MP Gordon Birtwistle SUPPORT: MP Gordon Birtwistle

BURNLEY MP Gordon Birtwistle has pledged to support the hunting ban after meeting with activists and staff from the League Against Cruel Sports.

He told them he would support the 2004 Hunting Act if there is a free vote in Parliament on the issue.

“Hunting with dogs seems cruel and outdated,” he said.

“I was pleased to see a ban introduce and will do my part to keep the ban in place.”

Mr Birtwistle also called for Parliament to put more focus on other animal rights issues.

He said: “I would like to see more focus on animal rights issues in Parliament however, and feel that there are many more areas where legislation could be helpful.”

Comments on this are from a local perspective preposterous apart from the awful practices of Bull Terrier fighting and badger baiting, which continue to be a problem.

It's an unfortunate trait of the locals in Mr. Birtwistles constituency to indulge in many medeival "sports", sadly dog fighting, badger baiting, and **** fighting are simply the tip of the iceberg. Until the town is coaxed into the 21st century i cannot see things improving much at all. Their unsavoury crude appetites won't be suppressed simply by passing a law.

"Hunting with dogs seems cruel and outdated"

No seems about it. It unquestionably is. The Government also needs to step up a response to the sickening act of dog-fighting. Huge custodial sentences for those scum please.

So why in Burnley alone out of the whole of East Lancashire do yopu account for the continued practice of Bull Terrier fighting and badger baiting?. The latter is now illegal.

Sadly, Jocky, as in my earlier posting, it seems that it's ingrained in the primitive culture in Burnley and Pendle. The indigenous population seem incapable of resisting even the most basic of urges, and subsequently it manifests into instances such as dog fighting co-ck fighting etc,
Similarly, it is my belief that is why there are so many instances of sexual deviances and nuisance activities such as flashing, and similar. Laws are passed against these activities but it still doesn't stop the locals indulging their crude sinister practices.

Well done Mr. Birtwistle. Foxhunting has nothing to do with control of the fox population. Any farmer will tell you that the hunts create artificial earths on their land in order to breed their quarry. Their excitement over 'cubbing season' says it all really. It is a vile and outdated activity carried on only by those who get their kicks from frightening and killing animals. No wonder the Tories couldn't swing a majority even following the worst government on record.

Harwoodandy, you forgot to include the customary dig at Burnley Football Club when you attack Burnley and Pendle, you need to study Tetley Dribler's posts to perfect your babbling.

Its not babbling. There are several reports of Bull Terrier fights and badger baiting involving people from Burnley & Pendle.
Draw the inference : it doesnt need to be spelled out. Dave yoiu come from Burnley, the name change just makes things worse. Its akin to being a social leper as it is;-)

I think he's 'metamorphosed' into Jocky as well. It doesn't take a genius to know a singer who only knows one song despite his multifarious stage names, does it. Schizophrenic, obviously and judging by his ill-advised constant whine about Burnley (of which, more revealed should he continue) he's so stupid, if he fell out of a rowing boat, he'd miss the water.
