Burnley family rescued after fire

A FAMILY of three had to be rescued in the early hours of this morning after their house filled with smoke.

Firefighers smashed down the door of the house in Abel Street Burnley at 4.15am to get to the two women and a man, who were woken by smoke alarms because of a fire in the empty adjoining property.

Burnley crew manager Mark Hammond said: “We were in constant contact by phone with the family on the way there, offering them advice.

“On arriving, firefighters in breathing apparatus found the family in an upstairs bedroom and managed to lead them out of the house.

“The fire was in a neighbouring house which was empty, undergoing renovation.

"There was severe damage to the ground floor of that propery through heat and fire.

“The cause is still under investigation, but at this stage, we do not think it is suspicious.”

Firefighters spent an hour at the scene.

All three people were taken for precautionary checks to the Royal Blackburn Hospital after inhaling smoke.
