A £7,000 HAUL of heroin was found in a series of raids as part of a crack-down on serious crime.
Operation Flytrap saw officers carry out stop checks, street briefings, and execute warrants, in relation to drugs and violent offences in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale. There were eight arrests.
Peter Meeks, 33, of Travis Street, Burnley, has been char-ged with abstracting electricity, and a 30-year-old woman, from Padiham, was given a caution after a small amount of cann-abis bush was found after a raid.
Three men, one aged 22, from Barnoldswick, and a 23-year-old and 24-year-old from Burnley, and a 22-year-old woman, from Burnley, have been bailed on suspicion of violent disorder and assault, in relation to an incident in Hammerton Street on March 1.
A woman, of Crawford Street, Nelson, was arrested following a raid yesterday on suspicion of abstracting electricity and drugs offences.
Chief Insp Jon Bullas, from Pennine Division, said: “This co-ordinated borough-wide strike against crime and offenders is indicative of the efforts being made by local officers to protect people from the harm caused by criminality.
“There is no doubt that our action will have had a significant impact on the very serious end of criminality which we know can have a devastating effect on communities.”
The action was followed up by patrols by neighbourhood police who spoke to local residents to explain the activity.
Insp Phil Davies said: “These people have a big impact on their communities and their neighbours know what is going on, and are looking to us to take action. These sort of operations have a big impact on the area and people like to see us out and about, with a van on the street, taking action against people.
“Residents feel comfortable giving us information if they know we are going to act on it.”
As part of the operation, road traffic police were also targeting uninsured drivers, or drivers without a licence, using their Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology.
So far this week, seven vehicles have been seized in Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.
