A GARDEN restoration project at Towneley Park is nearing completion.

Gardeners at the historic Burnley hall have been working on its Italian garden, and planting new displays of colourful flowers.

More than 2,000 bedding plants have been laid, and bosses expect the garden to be ready later this summer.

Head gardener Steve Wood said: “We’ve added six large circular beds that haven’t been seen for years, and planted a new stretch of yew hedge.

“We’ve also introduced a range of rhododendrons that would have been found in the gardens in the late 1800s.”
