‘Growing’ jobs for disabled in Bacup

A GREEN Trust which gives disabled young people a start in the gardening world has been awarded a £1,000 grant.
The cash has been donated by Lancashire County Council’s young people’s champion, and Burnley Central West county councillor Tony Martin, to Bacup Consortium Trust, based in St James’ Square.
A county council spokesman said: “The project trains disabled people, many of them young people, in gardening skills to aid employment with local garden centres.”
Last year the trust took over greenhouses in Stubbylee Park and now sells plants and vegetables to the public.
The councillor has also handed out £500 to Action for ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) for a project which helps people with such conditions, and their families, to lead more independent lives.
