THE Mayor of Burnley is opening two brand new facilities in Queens Park this weekend.

Councillor Ida Carmichael will cut the ribbon on the park’s exciting new children’s cycle track at 12.30pm on Saturday.

The innovative new track is based on a scaled down version of a road layout.

The track has been part funded by the Friends of Thompson and Queens Park, who successfully obtained £15,000 from the Lancashire County Council Environment Fund to provide a safe environment for children to learn to ride their bicycles.

The eagerly awaited new bandstand will then be opened by the Mayor at 1pm.

This will launch an exciting afternoon of music from the Champion Brass Event, featuring a host of performances from the Hebden Bridge Band, Todmorden Community Brass band and the Blackburn and Darwen Junior band from 1-5pm.

Ian Sturzaker, Parks Development Manager for Burnley Council, said: “We are really excited to be able to open these new facilities for the people of Burnley and Padiham.

"There are some very interesting developments taking place in parks across the borough, and some very positive changes.

“We are delighted to welcome the Mayor to Queens Park to open these new top class facilities.”
