A TALENTED artist has launched his latest exhibition of work featuring "sassy and streetwise" paintings.

Alex Daw, of Applecross Drive, Burnley, is celebrating gaining an acceptance to Chelsea College of Art in London following a successful year that has seen his paintings displayed in the National Gallery in London.

The 25-year-old fine art student at the University of Central Lancashire is now showcasing his work at the university's PR1 Gallery.

Alex said his pieces are more sassy and streetwise.

He said that he conveys his designs on consumerism, destruction, love and pain, directly onto glass and canvas, using paint and collage.

The Delusions of Grandeur exhibition features work from both Alex and another final year student Darren Beatty, 35, of Lostock Hall.

Alex said: "It is an exciting opportunity for me and comes after a great year.

"I've had work displayed in the National Gallery and now I am going to study a postgrad course at one of the country's leading art and design colleges.in London next year."

Promotional material for the exhibition says: "They carry a strong, fresh and youthful energy.

"The work on show is the culmination of four years study and the paintings are of a very high calibre."

Alex said: "Art should be accessible to everyone and we are keen to share our new work with people from all walks of life, not just those who already have an interest in art."

The former Burnley College student won a competition last year for the Blue Sky Day: Be Inspired competition, sponsored by Expedia, despite rebelling against the competition rules.

Everyone was provided with a piece of canvas featuring the Expedia logo - but Adam, who was amongst 200 artists invited to paint at the National Gallery, decided to turn the canvas around and paint on the back.

But he was still one of the three artists chosen to have their work displayed by the judges.
