A MAN who killed himself had lost his job in the weeks before his death, an inquest has heard.

Patryk Kowalczyk, 20, from Burnley, was found hanged at his house on January 3 this year.

Mr Kowalczyk had lost his job three weeks previously, the hearing at Preston Coroner’s Court, pictured, heard.

He had last been seen three days previously by his housemate.

His landlord Mark Hogg had tried to contact him without luck after he had fallen behind on his rent.

The hearing heard the landlord then put a letter under the door to say he would be going into his room.

When he next returned, he went in and found him hanged in his room.

Mr Hogg said he had not noticed any change in his behaviour and was ‘completely shocked’ to find Mr Kowalczyk, of Gannow Lane.

He said: “I rented the room to Mr Kowalczyk and I had known him for the last three months.

“Just before Christmas, I spoke to him as he’d not paid his week’s rent and he said he’d lost his job.

Mr Hogg then rang Mr Kowalczyk a few times after that to see if he had paid his rent, but had no response.

He added: “So I pushed a note under door saying I would go in the room.

“On January 3, I did attend and found him hanged in his room.

“I’d not noticed a change in his behaviour and was completely shocked to find him.”

The inquest also heard that Mr Kowalczyk was not believed to be taking any medication and no note was found.

Pathologist Dr Deepa Jacobs, who carried out the post-mortem examination, said the cause of Mr Kowalczyk’s death was hanging.

She said: “There was nothing relevant shown in the toxicology.”

PC Warburton, of Lancashire Constabulary, who attended the scene, said: “I went upstairs and nothing suspicious was found.

“The door had been locked.”

Recording a verdict of suicide, assistant coroner Richard Taylor said: “This was a very deliberate act that beyond doubt was what he intended.

“There was nothing in his system and his room was locked and he had lost his job."
