A DAD who was keeping an eye on his teenage daughter's house party via a security camera linked to his mobile went home when he didn't like what he saw.

Blackburn magistrates heard James Shaw saw four males at the party and when he got back one of them was kissing his daughter.

He ordered Cameron Hull to leave his house but was assaulted when the teenager returned to get his jacket.

Hull, 18, of Southworth Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to assaulting James Shaw. He was given a conditional discharge for eight months and ordered to pay £100 compensation.

Mike Church-Taylor, prosecuting, said Mr Shaw had gone out with his wife but was keeping an eye on his home via a security camera linked to his mobile.

"He saw four young men in the house and decided to go home," said Mr Church-Taylor. "The four males ran from the house but the defendant then tried to get back in. Mr Shaw blocked his way and was punched in the face for his trouble."

Damian Pickup, defending, said his client had never been in trouble with the police before. He was invited to the party.

"He was kissing the girl when her parents returned home unexpectedly," said Mr Pickup. "It is clear she had been told she could have a small party but it appears they didn't expect males to be there. My client says the girl's parents went mad and much of their anger was directed towards him because he had been kissing their daughter."

He said the dad was shouting at him and had him in a corner before pushing him out of the house.

"He realised he had left his brand new jacket in the house and returned to get it," said Mr Pickup. "He was met with further aggression and accepts he punched the aggrieved in the face. The dad went to call the police and my client took his chance to go in and get his jacket."

Mr Pickup said the magistrates may feel there was an element of provocation because the father was being aggressive towards his client.
