A VAPING store that was shut by police over suspicions the business was selling 'legal highs' will cease trading until August.

Burnley Magistrates has issued a closure order on Smoke n Vape, located in Burnley town centre, following allegations the store was selling 'pyschoactive drugs'.

This means that no-one can access the store for the next three months while the shop remains closed under the court order.

The order comes after Lancashire County Council Trading Standards and the local police neighbourhood team were granted a search warrant to visit the St James's Street premises on April 26.

Following the store's search, an 'immediate closure order' was placed on the town centre premises after officers said they found evidence to support the allegations.

The matter was then brought to Burnley Magistrates court the following day where a seven day closure order was granted after the owners of Smoke n Vape did not appear at court.

A full hearing was scheduled a week later on May 4.

Producers and suppliers of so-called legal highs face up to seven years in jail under legislation introduced across the UK in 2016.

Officially described as new psychoactive substances (NPS), legal highs were been linked to a number of deaths and hospital admissions in the years leading up to the ban on the drugs.
