MORE than 10 schools in East Lancashire have received Government funds to improve the condition of their buildings.

A total of £514million has been awarded to 1,300 schools in the UK as part of the Government's Condition Improvement Fund, including 13 schools in Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale.

The funding is provided to schools facing significant problems keeping their buildings safe and in good working order.

One school in Ribble Valley, four schools in Pendle, three schools in Rossendale and one in Burnley have all been granted funds by the Government for repairs and replacement equipment.

Clitheroe Royal Grammar School has been awarded funding for roof renewal and repairs and boiler replacement and heating alterations.

Burnley's Coal Clough Academy has been granted funds to replace their heating system, electrical safety works and flat and pitched roof.

Two schools in Rossendale - Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School and Belthorn Academy Primary School - will receive funds for building extension, roofing refurbishments and dining room extension.

Haslingden's Tor View School will receive funds to replace the building's water heating system and boilers.

Four schools in Pendle - Colne Primet Academy, Castercliff Primary School, Newchurch-in-Pendle St Mary’s Primary School and West Craven High School - were all awarded funding for works including roof repairs and replacing a fire alarm system.

Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans said: "It's brilliant news and absolutely superb.

"In any event we want to make sure the fabric of the buildings they are learning in are up to scratch and make the funding will make absolutely certain the amazing teaching will continue to take place."

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson said: “Pupils need high-standard, safe school buildings, as do the hard-working teachers and school staff delivering the best possible education to the next generation.

"These funding awards are a welcome boost to schools needing repairs."
