A 29 year old man set fire to his cousin's car after an incident at a house party earlier in the evening.
Blackburn magistrates heard Nicholas Alan Butler had a previous conviction for arson.
Butler, of Acre Avenue, Bacup, pleaded guilty to damaging a Peugeot 206. He was sent on bail to be sentenced at Burnley Crown Court on April 23.
Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said Butler and his cousin had been at a house party in Stacksteads and there was an incident involving the cousin's girlfriend.
Later that evening the cousin received a text message referring to his car being on fire and in the early hours of the morning it was burnt out.
The fire brigade said petrol had been used to start the fire and CCTV footage from a nearby petrol station showed Butler buying fuel in a can.
Geoffrey Ireland, defending, said it seemed to have been a revenge attack because his cousin had previously damaged his car and nothing to do with the earlier incident.
