A TEENAGER continues to fight for his life after having his legs amputated due to sepsis.

Ethan Hunt, who also had three heart attacks after initially thinking he had flu, remains in a critical condition in an induced coma, his family have confirmed.

It comes as a fundraising page set up to support Ethan and his family has reached more than £9,500 of its £150,000 goal.

The 16-year-old’s sister Jodie-Leigh has confirmed she is running the Great Manchester Run on May 20 to raise money for prosthetic legs for her brother.

Ethan’s auntie Nicola Spencer is also hosting a curry night at the Bombay Lounge, Barrowford, from 7pm on March 22, while there will be a family bingo afternoon from 1pm to 3pm on March 26 at the Stoops and Hargher Clough Youth and Community Centre, Venice Street, Burnley.

Ms Spencer said: “Ethan is still in his induced coma. There is not really any change. Everything is pretty much the same. His parents are still at his bedside.

“We have been overwhelmed by the public’s response to our fundraising efforts. It means a lot to us all, especially Ethan’s mum and dad. It just takes a little weight off their shoulders knowing there is some money there. They need some money to carry on and pay bills. Obviously Ethan’s dad can’t go to work at the moment because he’s constantly at his bedside. And when Ethan gets out of hospital a lot of money will also be needed for his care.

“As a family we would like to thank all those people who have supported our fundraising efforts so far and all those who will do so in the future. It means a lot.”

Ms Spencer said Ethan, who attends Blessed Trinity RC College, Burnley, had initially been suffering what the family thought was a cold or flu on February 3.

Five days later he was laughing and joking in the afternoon and went for a nap in the afternoon.

When his mother, Melanie, went to check on him he had a purple rash across his whole body. She called for an ambulance and told Ethan’s father, Andrew to come home.

Because of delays they drove Ethan to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he was found to have sepsis and put into an induced coma.

He was transferred to Wythenshawe and after his condition deteriorated and there was no pulse in his legs a decision was made to amputate.

He remains at Wythenshawe, unaware that his legs have been amputated.

Tickets for the curry night, which includes a meal, entertainment and raffle, are £15 and available by emailing ben679@hotmail.co.uk
