A DRIVER was caught three times over the legal drink-driving limit after a crash.

The two-vehicle collision happened at 9.30am on Sunday on Rossendale Road, Burnley.

Police have now released a picture of the damage caused to the silver Peugeot and the white Ford van they hit and issued a warning not to drink and drive.

A woman was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following the crash.

Nobody was seriously hurt in the collision.

Burnley and Padiham Police posted on Facebook: “Please let this be a reminder not to drink and drive. The person driving this vehicle was three times over the legal limit on Sunday morning at 9.30am.

“Drivers still continue to take the risk of driving whilst over the limit, risking their safety and that of other road users. It is just not worth it.”

“Thankfully nobody was seriously injured but all of this could have been avoided #team5 #drinkdrivecampaign.”

North West Motorway Police tweeted there had been several arrests for drink and drug driving over the weekend.

They said: “Few arrests for drink and drug driving overnight, at any time it is bad enough but to be in this state when it it below freezing is just madness and selfish to put yourself and others at risk. Never mind the emergency services who have to deal with the aftermath #wiseup.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 9.20am to a two-vehicle collision involving a silver Peugeot and a white Ford van. A woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.”

It comes as police launched their annual drink and drug campaign on December 1 in conjunction with Lancashire Road Safety Partnership.

The festive crackdown aims to educate drivers about the dangers of drinking and taking drugs before driving and asks them to think about how they will get home after a night out.
