NEW security measures have been installed at a Premier League football club to protect fans.

Burnley Football Club are set to become the first Premier League team to use these 'innovative' mobile barriers, which allow pedestrians to pass through safely.

The safety barriers were installed at either end of Harry Potts Way ahead of and immediately after the match against Premier League opponent Swansea City.

The barriers are in place to halt any vehicles from entering Harry Potts Way and protect pedestrians as they make their way into and out of the stadium.

The barriers are accessible for wheelchair users, pushchairs and cyclists and can be dropped in less than 30 seconds to enable emergency vehicles to pass through.

A club spokesman said: "The club has always been looking at improving security in and around the stadium for some time and we thought this was something worth investing in.

"We received feedback from supporters saying they were in favour of introducing these measures and we took this into account.

"Other clubs use different variations of security measures but we are the first Premier League team to use these mobile barriers.

"If the public road was a private lane we could address the issue with a permanent solution.

"We will be using this for every game from now on."
