A COUPLE were found hiding in a back garden — after crashing their vehicle then running from police.

At 2am today, a Red Skoda Octavia hit a parked black Toyota Hilux on Accrington Road in Burnley.

Police said the Skoda failed to stop for officers on Rossendale Road and was chased onto Accrington Road where it smashed into a bollard and the parked car.

The driver and passenger fled the scene but were chased by officers and a dog patrol who found them hiding in the back garden of a property.

A police spokesman said: "A man and woman have been detained after they failed to stop for police.

"Inquiries into where the car came from are ongoing."

An Accrington Road resident said he was woken when the Octavia hit his neighbour's car.

The 18-year-old said: "I had been asleep on the settee but this loud smash woke me up.

"I ran to have a look because I thought they had gone into my dad's car and saw someone jump out of the car and dart off."
