A spokesman said: "We are appealing for information after a man was left with serious injuries following an assault at a Burnley nightclub.

"A 29-year-old local man had an altercation with a man inside Vogue on Hammerton Street.

"A short time later, he has then been accosted by the same man, along with a group of others, and assaulted whilst on the floor between the DJ stand and the smoking area.

"He was repeatedly punched and kicked by the men and has been left with a fractured spine, liver damage and bruising as a result."

DC Rubina Akoo said: “This was a brutal assault as the victim laid defenceless on the floor.

"He has been left with some pretty nasty injuries which have consequently required hospital treatment.

"We are asking anyone who may have seen the incident or knows anything about it to speak to us.

"We know that the group mainly consisted of white men but we think that there was also one Asian man involved.

"If you saw these people, please get in touch as you could have vital information.”

A 25-year-old man from Nottingham was arrested shortly after the incident but has been released under investigation.

It comes just weeks after a teenager was dragged to the floor and punched several times in the face in the same club in what police described as a hate crime.

The 18-year-old had spoken to a woman before she introduced him to his attacker who made a homophobic comment and told the victim to leave, who refused.

The victim was left with severe bruising and swelling to both eyes after the incident on Saturday, September 2.
