FORMER Burnley FC captain Clarke Carlisle has been found safe and well after a police appeal.

Concerns were raised earlier today over the welfare of the 37-year-old who was reported missing.

However police confirmed he has now been found.

A police spokesman said: "Great news folks.

"Clarke Carlisle has been found safe in Liverpool.

"Thanks to everyone who shared our appeal."

The 37-year-old, who played more than 130 times for the Clarets, was previously last seen by a family member on the Flag Market in Preston at 2.30pm yesterday.

He is described as afro-Caribbean, 6ft 6inches tall, slim build with tattoos on his arms

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Holgate said police were 'extremely concerned' about the former footballer before he was found.
