A VARIETY of activities will be available in Burnley as part of Lancashire Health Week.

The initiative seeks to encourage more people to lead a healthier lifestyle and have fun in the process.

Between Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 24, free health checks, an organised walk up Pendle Hill, a traffic-free cycle ride, and food growing and weight management advice will be available.

Youngsters will be able to try a fruit tasting sessions and take part in healthy eating workshops in schools and swimming lessons at St Peter’s Leisure Centre.

A charity run will take place in Towneley Park on Sunday, September 17.

On the following Thursday, people are invited to put on their walking boots and walk for at least a mile in attempt to clock up 24,860 miles across the county, the same distance as the earth’s diameter.

Linda Searle, operations manager at Burnley’s Up and Active, said: “Lancashire Health Week will not only be a great celebration of what our service has to offer.

“Residents and visitors can expect a fun-filled week with entertainment, smoothie making, fruit tasting for children, MOT health checks, led walks, plenty of healthy lifestyle advice and freebies to name just a few.

“I would encourage people and families to get involved with this special event as it really has something for everyone, and it’s all free.”
