AN established business has planned to build a larger site to expand into.

Applicant Nationwide Marquee Hire Ltd has submitted plans to build a storage and disruption unit in Brunswick Street, Nelson.

The business set up in 2002 and is currently based at Barnfield Business Centre and split up into three separate depots.

It provides marquees to weddings, corporate events, festivals and agricultural shows across the country, as well as family parties.

If given the go-ahead, owner Brian Foster aims to pull the three depots together and consolidate them under one roof, with room to expand.

Mr Foster said around four jobs would be created initially, with potentially more in the future.

He said: “Business has been going well recently and we want to move the three depots into one base so it helps us be more efficient.

“With business going so well we will look to expand and this larger area will be perfect for that.

“We want to take on more people as well, which will mean we can provide more marquees.”

The proposals include nine car parking spaces with a large service area for vehicles.

Access would be from Cloverhill House Road and Brunswick Street.

Within a planning document, a spokesman on behalf of the applicant said the site would not be used for manufacturing and it would not be particularly noisy.

Mr Foster said: “The site we have picked has more outside room which is what we need.

“One of the depots we plan to rent out and therefore encourage other businesses to come to Nelson.

“We are well established in Nelson and have lots of trade locally and nationally.

“We are excited for the way we are going and we are looking forward to a bright future.”

A spokesman for the applicant said: “This relocation will allow a more suitable building to be constructed than those the company occupies and allow a rationalisation of the business and expansion.

“Because the existing site is within an existing business park, the company cannot do this at its current location.”
