A COMMUNITY centre celebrated its second birthday with the opening of a new kitchen.

Thanks to funding from the Lancashire Environment Fund (ELF) the Valley Street Community Centre, ran by Calico, will now be able to develop cooking skills of those who use it.

Alicia Foley, Calico's community involvement advisor, said: "The event was a great opportunity to celebrate the fantastic things that have happened at Valley Street Community Centre over the past two years.

"It's made a real difference to the lives of the people in the area, so it was great to recognise this.

"The new kitchen is incredible.

"It will give so many people the chance to learn to cook and develop new life skills.

"With this funding we have also been able to update other areas of the building including new toilet and shower facilities for the centre users.

"We'd like to thank LEF for all their help and support."

The centre provides fitness and wellbeing sessions, arts and craft workshops and has a summer holiday club for youngsters.
