CALLING all bookworms!

With the summer holidays fast approaching, there’s no better time than to kick back with a good book and relax.

And libraries across East Lancashire are running schemes to encourage children to spark their imagination if the British weather lets them down.

Many libraries across the region are participating in the Lancashire Reading Journey, from July 15.

This year, the challenge is all about collecting characters by completing various tasks.

You can sign up for free at any library, where you'll be given your own Reading Journey Log Book and pencil.

There are 13 characters to collect, each with four tasks - Reading, Writing, Making and Exploring.

To achieve a character you have to finish two of them. One needs to be the Reading task but the second can be your choice

You can collect as many characters as you wish and you'll receive a sticker for each one and a special prize if you reach six.

But in libraries across Blackburn with Darwen, they’re taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge, which starts on July 1 with Animal Agents as its theme.

Children can sign up to read at least six library books over the school holidays and collect incentives along the way.

They can use the Summer Reading Challenge website to keep track of the books they've read, write book reviews, enter competitions, chat to other readers and much more.
