A CRICKET club official has blasted vandals for repeatedly targeting their ground.

The latest attack to the home of Padiham Cricket Club in Arbory Drive saw a group of youths smash bottles onto the field.

Club officials discovered the damage, the latest in a number of attacks over the last few months, when they arrived at the field on Sunday morning.

Callum Clarke, secretary of the cricket club, said: "The incident happened overnight on Saturday.

"We've seen the CCTV footage that shows a group smashing two bottles left out from the day before on the playing field.

"We discovered the glass on the field on Sunday morning and had to clear it quickly as our under 9s team was playing that day.

"This is just youths causing trouble and smashing bottles and making the field unsafe with glass everywhere."

Callum said the matter has been reported to Lancashire Police, who he hopes can take action to address the problem.

Callum added: "There's a walk-way leading to the ground, so it's not fenced off or secure as we don't mind people walking around, but obviously not to smash bottles.

"This has been an on and off problem for the last few months now.

"It's just kids that are bad and they leave the field in a real mess.

"There's a lot of people who put a lot of hard work into the cricket club and this is just inconsiderate.

"The matter has been reported to Lancashire Police and hopefully they can take some action to address the problem."

The incident comes after damaged was caused during a break-in at Barrowford Celtic's Bull Holme clubhouse in Wilton Street, Barrowford earlier this month.

Offenders gained entry to the building by forcing open a kitchen window with a metal bar and the perpetrators then proceeded to ransack the kitchen and bar areas.

They then left the scene empty handed.
