LEGENDARY Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling made a marathon effort when he visited East Lancashire, as part of a fundraising campaign.

The star stopped at Oldham Athletic’s Boundary Park, before visiting Rochdale and finishing at Accrington Stanley’s Wham Stadium.

Then Jeff spent Saturday travelling from Blackburn Rovers via Preston and AFC Flyde to Blackpool and yesterday Fleetwood Town and Morecambe FC.

He was due set off walking from Burnley to Huddersfield at 8am today.

The presenter is walking a mammoth 15 marathons in 15 days to raise vital cash for Prostate Cancer UK through the March for Men campaign.

After finishing the walk to Accrington, in which he was joined by around a dozen other marchers, he said: “ I am doing this challenge to raise awareness of prostate cancer in the UK.

“Ten men would have died of the disease while I walked from Oldham to here.

“Too many men are dying of prostate cancer.

"It’s a disease that kills one man every hour in the UK, that’s 11,000 men every year.”

“So this is all about raising money and we believe within ten years we can beat it.”

In the challenge, the Soccer Saturday presenter will be travelling between Exeter City to Newcastle United, via other football grounds, which will total 400 miles.

He has raised over £200,000 for charity so far, of a target of around £500,000.

Along the way to Accrington’s ground, Jeff was joined by Hyndburn MP Graham Jones, and during the course of the challenge, has been joined by sports personalities including Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and Phil Thompson.

Jeff added: “I’m planning on visiting about 40 football grounds during the challenge, and have already paid visits to the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Wigan and Bolton to name a few.

“The distance I walk varies over the 16 days but I walk roughly 26 miles each day, the distance of a marathon.

“I was joined by my friend Bill Arthur, a Sky Sports rugby league reporter, for part of the marathon today, who has been affected by prostate cancer.

“Football is full of men and prostate cancer is something that affects a lot of us.
